Acting Minister of Fisheries. The Minister of State for Fisheries, Senator Abdul Qani Gelle Muhammad, accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry Abdul Razzaq Jama Aden, laid the foundation stone for development projects to be implemented in the handha and Gumbah regions in gardafuu province.
The projects, which include refrigerators, freezers and a fish storage and preparation facilities, will be implemented this year in four coastal areas in Gardafu and Karkar regions.
The Minister and his delegation met with the fishing cooperatives of handho and Gumbah regions in Gardafu province and discussed with them the progress made in the fishing industry and the current challenges facing the fishermen.
The projects implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries were welcomed by local fishermen, who said that they will greatly enhance fishing activities.
The minister and his accompanying delegation moved today to the city of Bargal in Gardafu region, far north-east of Somalia, in an area rarely visited by government officials.
