Bari and Gardafuu Regional Health Project Review Conference opens in Bossaso

The Ministry of Health in Puntland state of Somalia has opened a two-day health review conference on The Community Health and Social Accountability Programme in Somalia (CHASP phase 2) for Bari and Gardafuu regions in Bossaso city .

The purpose of this conference was to review the performance, what was achieved in the past period, and the obstacles and lessons learned during this project.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health in Puntland, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Hassan Hirsi who spoke about the importance of the conference.

CHASP project is funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency SIDA and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)

The decentralized system for the delivery of health care and Nutrition services empowers district authorities, and communities, while maintaining the support, supervision and accountability role of the regional and national authorities; as well as ensuring the provision of the Essential Package of Health Services (EPHS) across all four tiers of services delivery, complemented by a strong community level engagement component, and flexibility for humanitarian responsem and healthcare situation in thetargeted districts

Despite the success of the project in creating and establishing basic health services for the targeted regions, the remote areas, specifically the Gardafuu region, still need more focus, to provide integrated health centers that can deal with different cases, and have a sufficient number of medical cadres.

Bearing in mind the importance of having mobile health teams that move between mountainous and rugged areas and villages far from the main cities,
